[/div] you wanna make a difference? IT'S NOT THE WAY YOU PLAN IT, IT'S HOW YOU MAKE IT HAPPEN - - - - - - - - - - [/div] it was a strikingly warm summer in salem. yes, he'd come to america. it was a weird experience being there, truthfully, as it was his first time. salem was home to the witches, and the salem witch trials, and even the muggles used it as a tourist destination for these reasons. of course they probably dismissed the legends as hocum, and the witches as poor women who were gotten rid of for ideas that were 'above their station' or whatever the muggle excuse for it was nowadays. the witches and wizards of the world knew the truth, however, and nathaniel abrams was one of these. he casually strolled through the streets, attempting to find a quiet corner that he could disappear from. he'd decided to get a plane to america, as to apparate all that way would really have taken it out of him, and he wasn't too fond of the idea of splinching, either, and he believed the risk might be bigger the longer the distance. nate didn't like the feeling that floo powder gave you either, and flying such a long distance by broom would be silly.
besides, he quite wanted to experience a plane flight. the flight itself was uneventful, and he kind of regretted not apparating. he wasn't always the most patient of men, and this plane flight was the only thing that stood between himself and his current goal, and he usually did what was necessary when it came to getting what he wanted. he didn't like anything holding him back, and in all honesty, he also assumed that the flight would be faster than this. he didn't expect it to take so many hours, and he got bored very easily on it. when it landed, he'd sprang back alive, and started searching for this quiet corner. in all honesty, salem seemed a nice quiet town. hard to believe the past that it had. ah! he spotted an ally way and checked no one was looking before strolling casually into it. a few moments and a short apparition journey later, he was stood in the grounds of salem's equivalent to hogwarts. no where near as good. nate shrugged and slipped his sunglasses back on, over his eyes, before strolling inside.
he stopped several people to ask them his question. "have you seen a professor matthews? evelyn matthews?" he asked, and the third person pointed him in her direction. which happened to be directly behind him. ah, finally. "eve! you look as beautiful as i heard you would. i am nathaniel abrams, and i would like to have a word with you, if that's ok?" he asked, before turning toward the door he'd came in through. the sun was so nice on his skin that he immediately wanted to head back outside. "is a walk in the grounds out of the question?" he asked eve, catching himself. vampire. sun. ah, yes, that could be a problem. but it was so nice outside! ”i’ve been looking forward to meeting you by the way, i do hope you don’t mind me coming along” he said casually, offering her his arm.[/div] OPEN THREAD. [/style] [atrb=border,0,true] Evelyn had been working at Salem for three years now. Before moving to the American school from her previous employers in China, she had taken a year's break from teaching as she always did every couple of decades before jumping straight back into that which she had been doing practically her whole life. Though she could never explain her teaching experience of over one hundred and fifty years when applying for a job, she had never yet failed to receive a job offer for a position that she wanted. This position was always the professor of History of Magic or else a similar subject such as Classics or Ancient Studies if such a position didn't exist at the school she wished to teach in. In the case of Salem, her position was as a Classics professor and she enjoyed the difference to her usual teaching post. She had fortunately studied Greek many years beforehand so as to teach in Rhodes and her Latin skills had been developed ever since starting at Hogwarts in her youth.
It was now May and her career in Massachusetts had remained perfectly untroubled. If Eve had considered any threat to her presence then she wouldn't have been walking out of her classroom at that very moment. Following a double lesson of studying the Odyssey with fourth years, she had an hour of her own time before giving her sixth years feedback on their first piece of NEWT coursework. Had she not grown accustomed to using her birth name at the school, she might have panicked at hearing someone asking for her. The last time she hadn't used an alias had been her seven years in Madagascar. Upon seeing the man that was enquiring after her, she smiled. Evelyn did not recognise his face but he didn't appear to be looking for her in order to do her harm. Had she not noted his British accent, she might have thought him an older brother of one of her students as he was far too young to be a parent. While this assured her that he wasn't going to try and critique her teaching ability, it did make her wonder as to why he had come so far to speak to her, assuming that he lived in his country of origin rather than having moved to America for one reason or another.
Well she could ask him that when their conversation began, as it surely would if he was looking for her. "Why thank you, you're looking rather beautiful yourself," she replied, doubtful that it was the reply he was expecting but responding as she did nevertheless. "It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Evelyn Matthews, but then you knew that already." She would have extended her hand to greet him but she had never been a lover of handshakes and he'd already proceeded to lead the way outside. The way in which he had proposed a conversation between the two of them seemed slightly strange to the woman but she followed him towards the door anyway. "A walk in the grounds would be marvelous, I've heard it's lovely outside today," she replied, taking his arm in her own and stepping out into the sunlight. Had it not been for the ring on her right ring finger, she'd have found herself struggling to see and her skin uncomfortably warm to the point of itchiness. Fortunately her time in the Amazon rainforest had resulted in a rare means of walking safely in the sun like everybody else.
"No, not at all. I'm curious as to what I can do to help you that would bring you all the way to Salem, providing I've been correct in my assumption that you maintain a permanent residence in England."

[/div] you wanna make a difference? IT'S NOT THE WAY YOU PLAN IT, IT'S HOW YOU MAKE IT HAPPEN - - - - - - - - - - [/div] nathaniel had been researching evelyn for quite a while now. he'd go so far as to say that he'd spent at least a year finding out just what she was, and who she was, as well. evelyn matthews was a vampire and nathaniel knew and loved that fact. that was one of the reasons that he had came all this way. evelyn was a vampire, which meant that she was strong, fast, and she sounded very smart too, and he wanted her on his team. the other reason was that he'd heard of a plot the founders had cooked up so many centuries ago. he did doubt the validity of this, as what he'd been told meant that powerful magic had been put in place, and he wasn't sure if anyone these days could cast a spell like that, let alone all those years ago. magic had developed, in his eyes, since then. he knew that they were four of the smartest, bravest, and powerful wizards known to man, but he wasn't even sure if they had that sort of power. the person who'd told him this had been pretty sure though, and he wasn't about to doubt a seer that he'd made a point to track down.
that was what nate loved about the magical world. all of the amazing possibilities. there were ghosts (the only downside being that you had to die and couldn't touch, smell, feel or eat again), vampires, werewolves (although the pain of transformation made that one less desirable), and seers of the future. they would come in handy, as he wanted to be a few steps ahead of the game. so, after hearing of the founder's plan to return, he was going to gather all the support he could, which meant tracking down anyone who wouldn't want the founders to come back. he couldn't fight them alone after all, godric was meant to be an insane duellist. and back to the vampire part, ok, so nathaniel kind of wanted to live forever. it would help him in his fight with the founders if they didn't quite catch on to what he was, and they could think that the could come back and ey had killed him and then he could come back and hurt them when they were least expecting it. or that was the plan anyway. whether it would work was one thing, but he would try it and find out.
"ahh i'd say i dress to impress but i always look this awesome." nathaniel said with a smile, his usual charm and personality leaking through into the conversation. "i did, i know a lot about you, i hope that you do not mind that, but you've been quite the topic in my little group for a year or so now" nathaniel said. if he was going to be one thing with evie, it would be honest. well, on most things. he had a plan, as always. he always had plans and most of them were brilliant, some of them sucked. he was going to make evelyn fall in love with him and then trick her into turning him into a vampire. that was the amazing plan. and it would be amazing, nate would make sure of that. "it is indeed, the feel of the sun on your skin, indescribable" nate spoke, a smile on his lips. it was awesome to actually be here, with her, at last. his plan was now officially in motion. "your beauty alone is enough to bring me all the way to salem" nathaniel said, charm oozing out of him. he'd always been a charmer, this was no different. "but i am not the only one who knows who you are, evelyn, or what you are, and my father has asked for a meeting with you. he has a proposition. one i think, you will like"[/div] OPEN THREAD. [/style] [atrb=border,0,true] The fact that he hadn't been sure of her ability to walk in the sun led Evelyn to believe that Nathaniel didn't know everything there was to know about her. This was comforting, both for the fact that she still had the advantage of mystery and that her tracks had been covered well. She suspected that he had become aware of her initially quite by accident and that it had only been from there that he'd began to seek her. It wasn't as if she'd been a celebrity back in her day and only three people on the planet that knew her by name knew that she was a vampire and they were all dead - the Amazonian witch that had given her the enchanted ring, the man that had pushed her superego to one side and consequently got her pregnant and, providing he'd given her the letter on her seventeenth birthday as instructed, her daughter Amber. The Durmstrang highmaster had discovered the truth but as far as he was concerned, it had been Andrea Collins that he'd had to let go due to parental complaints and he'd kept his mouth shut to ensure he wasn't outed as a werewolf.
She raised her eyebrow as he mentioned she'd been quite the topic of discussion in his group. "Have I really? I'll let you know later whether I'm concerned or flattered by that," she told him. A light laugh escaped her lips as he called the feeling of the sun indescribable. "Well let me see... irritating, painful, burning... generally rather unpleasant, I would say but then that's the reaction you'd expect from someone like me." Evelyn wasn't nearly as worried by the fact he knew she was a vampire as she thought she should be. He'd clearly dedicated a lot of time and effort into tracking her down and that should have made her very wary of him. Regardless of the circumstances that had brought them together today, they both knew that she was the stronger of the two. He could be no more than twenty-five and even if he was a rather proficient wizard for his age, she had advantages over any human and that was before she pulled out her wand. Her reflexes were very sharp and she'd have her wand at his throat before he'd even finished getting his out of his pocket. On top of that, she'd had one hundred and sixty three years to practice magic with no punishment (though she'd been learning for seven years before then) and, if she did say so herself, she was a spectacular witch.
"Just met me and already predicting my reactions, aren't you bold. Is your father as charming as you are?" she asked with a smirk before absent-mindedly glancing down to stare at the amber in her ring. For some reason it was always to this that she looked when making a decision or in otherwise deep thought, perhaps because it symbolised both her daughter and the freedom it granted her. Usually the sun applied restrictions to how easily a vampire could use their advantages but this enchanted resin lifted those restrictions and left her free to do whatever she wished whenever she wished to do it. "So what's the proposal, exactly?" she asked, breaking the focus on her ring to look back at the handsome young man on her arm.

[/div] you wanna make a difference? IT'S NOT THE WAY YOU PLAN IT, IT'S HOW YOU MAKE IT HAPPEN - - - - - - - - - - [/div] how had nathaniel came across evelyn? well you see, it was quite by accident. someone had mentioned seeing someone who looked literally like they hadn't aged a day. it was an old person that he'd overheard, just by accident, in diagon alley once. they'd been taught years before in a school overseas, and seemed to remember this woman teaching them. they couldn't recall her name at the time, but what they'd said was enough to have nathaniel snooping around, determined to find out who she was. the old man had simply dismissed it, thinking it was probably her sister that he'd seen not too long ago, when he was out visiting family somewhere overseas. nate had asked to speak to him and insisted that the woman he was speaking about was a long lost friend. a little confounding spell here or there and the old man was telling him everything he needed to know, including times and locations and a perfect description. she'd sounded so beautiful from what the old student had said, and nate couldn't quite believe that someone of this description fit. he used the information himself and tried to trace her. he found a few leads here and there, but there were always gaps. he spread the world telling people that he was looking for, and then informed his father of what he'd been doing. jon was interested and asked nate to pass on the proposition of meeting him, to discuss some involvement with the nex domino.
nate had just an important job as jon did in selling this to her, as she had to trust him faintly, to come with him, and he had to be a person that she'd want to go with. this was the easy part, as he could turn on the charm as if flicking on a switch, and had been able to for years. this was something that he'd cultivated knowing that it would come ever so much in handy. why not use it, when it could be the thing that got her to come with him? "well then, i'm glad that you'll be talking to me later, i'll take that as a sign that things are going well" he commented, with a smile. of course they were, they'd hit it off brilliantly. what he hadn't exactly told his father was the other plan that he had in mind. evelyn matthews was a vampire, and this was exactly what he wanted to be. he couldn't let old age take his good looks away from him. he wanted to be this strong, this capable and this good looking forever. then he could really change things up. he'd have plenty of time to do so and make sure that the nex domino carried on it's work, long after his father could. but this was a plan that he would keep to himself. he just hoped that it worked. not that he was lacking faith in his ability to make her fall in love with him. he'd lost count of the schoolgirls that had already professed their love for him. but evelyn was different. she had, somewhere in the range of 150-200 years on him, he'd been trying to find an exact figure, but this girl knew how to keep herself a mystery. "i dare say no one is as charming as me, but don't tell dad that" he joked, looking around as if he was telling her some big secret, and then smirking afterward. his dad was charming, yes, but nate felt as though he managed to take this to a whole new level. he'd spent his life becoming who his father wanted him to be, and so he had the ability now to discover the type of person that people trusted most, and become them without skipping a beat. he probably needn't have confounded the man in diagon alley, but it was the quicker way to find out what he needed. he wouldn't get away with confounding evelyn, and he wouldn't dare pull a wand on her anyway. she was faster and stronger than him, and he knew that. he wanted those reflexes that she had so very badly. "he wants to meet with you, wherever is easiest, preferably in england as that is where he will want you to be, where i will want you to be." he added, with a small smile, before continuing. "my father has promised to get you a job at the school. we've heard that you are a remarkable witch, and a brilliant teacher, and we want that for the students of hogwarts. he will get you this job, and he keeps his promises, i swear. if you come and hear him out." nathaniel explained, hoping that the temptation of working at her old school would be enough alone to get her to come along.[/div] OPEN THREAD. [/style] [atrb=border,0,true] A faint smile crossed Evelyn's lips as Nate drew the conclusion that they would be speaking later. This was a predictable assumption to make from what she had said just before him and when she gave it a moment's thought, Eve realised that her mind had been made up ever since she'd left that tiny bundle in the bedroom of one of her biggest mistakes. Not a day had gone by in her extended lifetime where she hadn't thought of Amber at least once, of her old Hogsmeade home and her old Hogwarts office, of how she would give anything to go back just to find out what her daughter had made of her life. Whether going with Nathaniel was a wise decision or not, Professor Matthews knew that she would never be able to reject such an opportunity even if he told her that he planned to drive a stake through her heart as soon as she entered the castle grounds.
She laughed lightly as he declared himself more charming than his father. "Your secret's safe with me. If I do say so myself, I'm rather good at keeping secrets," Evelyn replied. Her entire life was one big secret, moving from place to place under various names and appearances so as to keep herself safe for as long as it took for a return to her old home to be safe. Eve refused to die until she knew what had happened in her absence and with her additional abilities, this just meant not letting anyone get close enough to kill her. "I shall consider your request, Mr Styx, but I'm afraid I need to be getting back up to the school to prepare for my sixth years. It's been lovely speaking with you and if I decide I'd like to help you, I look forward to seeing your father in Hogsmeade tomorrow and yourself whenever circumstances allow it." With nothing else to discuss that couldn't wait until tomorrow, Evelyn granted him a peck on the cheek before sliding her arm out of his and walking back up to her classroom.
