He'd made a few friends and he'd made a few enemies, well not really enemies more like people he just doesn't like as much, as others. He'd also grown attatched to some of the places in Hogwarts, his favourite places were the towers, he liked being up high, maybe it was because he'd always found peace in flying around on his broom at home or maybe it was something else he hadnt thought of, either way he enjoyed the towers and he was currently sat at the top of the north tower.
The north tower was usually used for divination but there were no divination lessons currently underway so it was pretty deserted, which meant it was perfect for Arthur to hang out at, he didn't really like people, well that's not strictly true, he just didnt understand people very well. He didnt understand feelings and he didnt understand why people would react so illogically sometimes. He did have feelings and often would find himself wanting to do illogical things to protect his family but he knew that was based on primal instincts from a caveman era and was just part of the fact that his family was the closest thing he has for a pack.
Arthur may not understand people but it didnt mean he wanted to be completely alone all the time, there were some people he wanted to spend time with and to get to know and that he actually enjoyed spending time with. One of these people were Basilia Cyrus, an attractive ravenclaw girl who actually made sense to him, they'd met when they'd got paired up for a class, Basil had decided she'd do all the work but Arthur wasnt up for that at all, he didnt want to just sit back and let someone else do everything considering he knew he could do it too. So they'd bonded through that and grown close. It was only till after that he'd noticed how good looking she was and had caught himself looking at her, he shunned all those weird feelings to the side though, he didnt want to stoop to such a primitive nature.
Arthur did however want to spend some time with her though, so he'd told her to meet him there, where he was currently sat on the floor in the middle of an abandoned tower, waiting.

I'VE BEEN FALLIN' THROUGH THE FIELDS & HIDING EVERY DAY { arthur , 1165 words , wearing , the distance - peasant } [/div] Basil sighed quietly, looking out of the hallway window; her grey-green eyes were wide and reflected the image that they took in. The castle was illuminated with light from the shining orb in the sky, each boring, worn-out brick telling a story of its very own. The castle was like a ghost in itself, begging for each inhabitant to listen to the story that it wanted to badly to vocalize. Its thoughts were the shadows cast by the skeletal window frames, the creaks of the wooden floors in the turrets of the towers, the whistling of the wind as it blew through the long corridors. When one took the time to listen, only then could the secrets of the magical old school be revealed. But most students wouldn't take that time. They were too busy rushing through their life, wasting it away second by second. A minute here, forty-two seconds there, three minutes here... it all added up. Nobody knew that they were wasting their time being so busy that they couldn't slow down to see that the portrait of the young boy in the sailor's suit really did have something important to say, or that the Grey Lady was crying and nobody would take a moment out of their day to comfort her, that Peeves could actually carry out an intelligent conversation. But everyone was too preoccupied with their own lives to care for anyone else, to hear the secrets of the castle.
She was an incredibly logical person and highly intelligent, but she still took the time to learn about the little things that other people overlooked. She found it easier to talk to the Founders and the Hogwarts ghosts than talking to her peers. People her own age were all emotional and confusing. Facts didn't abandon others. History didn't break out into tears every time somebody called it boring. Stories couldn't gossip. Books didn't care about what was in style. And so, Basil liked them better. She was content to be a loner, because she wasn't really alone. She had knowledge of things that had happened hundreds of years ago, she knew the Roman emperors off by heart, she knew how to think up a new spell and have it half-perfected by the end of the week. She was happier.
That was, until she started meeting people that she didn't mind being around. There were people like Annie Carter, who she hadn't expected to be friends with at all. However, she found herself quite enjoying having a girl friend; she'd only ever really acquainted herself with boys. Girls were far more complicated and vicious, boys were... boys.
Speaking of boys, there was one boy in particular who stood out in Basil's life by the name of Arthur Dalton. He was another sixth year, in Hufflepuff, and he wasn't hard on the eyes either. At first Basil was surprised to notice that he made sense to her. He was a fellow intellectual who didn't judge Basil because of her brains. She smiled as she remembered the day in class that they had met. She didn't recognize him, but they had been partnered up in Potions class. Now, Basil was more than used to other pupils taking advantage of her extensive knowledge, and prepared to do the work solo. However, Arthur had had none of that. They found that they worked together quite well, and had definitely bonded over that experience. Basil found that she could call him her best friend now, which made her feel... well, it made her feel.
She had never felt anything for anybody before, and so the feeling was still sort of foreign to her. Still, having a friend like Arthur was nice. It made her feel like she wasn't so alone anymore. Like she had someone to be there for her, to be her rock when she was breaking. A friend that she could talk to. If she was being completely honest, a part of her wanted to say that she loved Arthur. As a friend. Love was an interesting thing. She had had a crush on a bloke last year, but she didn't do anything about it and that left her with all these feelings. Loneliness was the main one. She wanted to be loved, but, didn't every girl? Every girl wanted that perfect fairytale ending, that handsome prince to rescue them when their life went to the Flobberworms. Basil was incredibly curious when it came to romantic love, but it was like she was playing the Dating Game on "Difficult" mode. She just didn't know what to do. She had inexplicably changed her shirt three different times and hummed over her appearance before leaving the dormitory, much to the confusion of her roommates (and herself).
Feelings were weird. "Emotions are the various bodily feelings associated with mood, temperament, personality, disposition, and motivation and also with hormones and neurotransmitters such as dopamine, noradrenaline, serotonin, oxytocin and cortisol." She recited quietly to herself. It was a little ritual that she had whenever she dared to feel something that confused the living daylights out of her. Facts kept her grounded, they kept her in the know. They weren't confusing. Emotions were. "Emotion is often the driving force behind motivation, positive or negative. The physiology of emotion is closely linked to arousal of the nervous system with various states and strengths of arousal relating, apparently, to particular emotions."
She continued on her way to meet Arthur in the North Tower, which is what she was doing while her inner monologue was taking the stage. She knew the way to the abandoned tower without really paying attention to it, it was one of those things that she had done so many times that it was in muscle memory.
She climbed the stairs up to their meeting place, allowing herself to hum a little tune on the way. It was a song that her mother was singing to baby Basil in a home video, and she unconsciously (mostly) hummed it whenever she was unsure of something. She was surprised that she was unsure of something at that moment. What could it possibly be? As she entered the tower, she realized just what it was that she was unsure of. He was sitting right there.
Basil felt the weird little flutter in her gut once again, and felt a slight blush creep onto her cheeks. She prayed he wouldn't notice. She didn't want him to think any different of her now that she had showed some weirdness. She didn't think he would judge her, of course he wouldn't, but any normal person would, wouldn't they? The cognition of danger and subsequent arousal of the nervous system, such as rapid heartbeat and breathing, sweating, and muscle tension, is an integral component to the subsequent interpretation and labeling of that arousal as an emotional state. She forced herself to remember what she had read, keep her feelings in check, and spit out a greeting.
"Hey,"

About many things, Hogwarts, Feelings, Emotions, Girls, Boys, Basil, Friends, Lovers, Relationships. Arthur brain would often dash from one subject to the other, yes he was intelligent and indeed a logical person but unlike Basil his mind seemed to change topics more often, everything was much more new to him after being home-schooled his entire life that his brain often got distracted by other things, he'd always tend to think about a variety of things related to the thing that got his attention and then use all the thoughts to summarize on a single point. Often his brain would be going so fast he would actually loose track of what his original point was, often getting distracted by something else that interests him more.
All the thoughts in his head went completely blank when he noticed the girl standing there in front of him. It was weird how blank his mind had gone, not a single thought passed through his head for a moment, then suddenly it began working overtime to try and make up for that split second of nothing. She looked amazing, she always seemed too, he was starting to wander if she used any kind of beauty products or her looks were completely natural but he figured that would probably be a bit rude and the last thing he wanted to do was to loose her as a friend.
His eyes made his way from her comfortable looking boots to the skinny jeans which hugged her legs past her purple blouse and then at the end of their journey he looked deep into her grey-green eyes and a smile formed on his face. There she was, who he'd been waiting for. "Hi" he forced out then closed his eyes for a split second to try and gather his composure.
Letting out a small cough he patted the ground in front of him "I thought we could.. i dunno.. hang out?" he said unsure of the terminology, he just wanted to spend some time with her whilst not doing work, like friends were supposed too, or at least what he'd heard friends are supposed to. He'd also heard that friends compliment each other and have each others back, he wasn't sure how he could have her back right now but he was sure he could compliment her at least. "I like your.." he started then realised he didn't actually know what he liked the most about her outfit, "everything?" he said awkwardly shrugging.
Well done Arthur, you've made yourself sound like an idiot he thought to himself, he'd always been jealous of his cousin Joshua, he was always so confident and strong and good with people, Arthur was completely different and it was fairly clear for everyone to see. Arthur was however grateful in certain aspects, for one he wasn't in an arraigned marriage, not yet anyway, he didn't exactly want to be but he had no idea what the future would hold and he didn't really want to know what the future had in store, he liked mystery, he enjoyed trying to work out the mysteries and he enjoyed the feeling he got when he actually managed to work something out. If there was no mystery then life would be boring and if it was one thing Arthur just did not enjoy it was being bored, luckily he could usually entertain himself by studying people or reading something from the library that tickled his interest. Right now however, the only thing that was tickling his interest was stood right in front of him.

I'VE BEEN FALLIN' THROUGH THE FIELDS & HIDING EVERY DAY { arthur , 640 words , wearing , the distance - peasant }[/div] Although quite proud of her ability to perceive, Arthur's studies of Basil went unknown to the young woman. This was most likely because she was doing the exact same thing. She was seeing him in an entirely different light. She looked down at his hands, wearing a speculative expression. She meditated over the opinion that they matched Arthur's personality quite impeccably. Strong, sturdy, with a moderately worn quality. Hands that you knew you could fall back on, hands that would caress you if you were hurt. Basil's mind attached him to the likeness of a favourite sweater; worn out and tired at times, but comforting, snug, warm. Always there when it was needed. He was one of the most pleasant people Basil had ever met. She began appreciating the rectangular shape of his jaw, the slight appearance of stubble on his face. She noticed how the deep navy colour of his shirt made the blue tones in his eyes pop out at her and appear on the insides of her eyelids, the curve of his lips, how soft his walnut-coloured hair would be to touch...
Her mouth opened slightly as she realized what she was doing, and exactly who had struck her interest. Arthur Dalton. Her best friend. She had never thought herself capable of feeling emotions so painfully acute and intense. She had heard about this rare phenomena, but shrugged it off multiple times. She allowed herself a second to scrunch her eyes shut and clear her head, and opened them again (although her attempt was unsuccessful) as not to arouse suspicion.
When he smiled at her, it was like there was nothing else more in the world that she could ask for at that moment. All she wanted was to sit with Arthur and see him smile.
It dawned on her how incredibly foolish she was being. She couldn't let her feelings get in the way of such a perfect friendship. But it's not perfect. A voice in her head whined. Maybe he's noticing all these weird things that you're doing, and he'll just leave you. Basil inwardly shook her head and shoved the little voice out of the way. But its message had gotten across, and a spark of fear ignited deep inside her. What if he was noticing her foolishness? What if he didn't like her anymore? She had to mentally recite to herself that Arthur was a good guy, and that he did actually like her and wasn't going to leave her. Arthur wouldn't do that. She was sure of it.
She took a deep breath and smiled back.
She took up his offer and gracefully took a seat down on the floor, close to him, but not too close. "It's a fair idea." She didn't know exactly why, but she grinned. When he complimented her outfit she felt herself blush in the slightest, praying (again) that he wouldn't notice or think anything of it. Basil wasn't used to getting compliments or having people compliment her appearance, so she let out a short, breathy laugh and smiled back at Arthur. She briefly wondered why she was so smiley, and then remembered that her reason was the person in front of her. "Thank you." She replied politely. "You look..." She looked at Arthur with her brow slightly furrowed, trying desperately to find a way to describe him. He looked... perfect. Really great. Awesome. Fantastic. Handsome... she'd settle for 'nice'. "You look really great, actually." Her eyes widened as she realized what she had just said. "You look really great, actually." was definitely not what she had meant to say aloud. "Nice". "Nice". That was what she had meant to say. Merlin, this just wasn't her hour. She had made herself to be a fool at least forty times since she walked in the door.
Well, shit.

Arthur watched as she sat down, she was sitting close but it felt too far, he wasn't sure why, he'd spoken to people further away but there was just something in the back of his head that made him shuffle forwards slightly making the distance between them shorter. He then wiggled himself around slightly to get comfortable, he soon realised he couldn't get comfortable, his weird feelings inside were far too distracting and annoying and he just didn't understand why they'd suddenly appeared now and not some other time, he'd heard that emotions are strange and stupid but he'd never really understood why that was until now.
Yet through all this uncomfortableness he found being around her he could be more relaxed than he usually could. He didn't have to worry about what to say or how to act or what to do when he was around her, she'd just naturally clicked with him and he hadn't had to adapt in any way to get along with her, so strangely he was more comfortable than ever.
Arthur did this time notice her blush but his mind went off in all the wrong directions. Was that bad? Did she notice i'm stupid, is she embarrassed? his mind began asking and not giving any time for answers. He forced these questions to one side deciding not to dwell and that if he still wandered he could think about it later, when she had left and he was alone. He was a little taken back when she complimented him however.
He didn't blush at all but that was most likely because of the shock of it. "I do?" he questioned, speaking without thinking. "I mean, Josh is great looking.. i'm just.." Arthur started to try and explain his confusion, he couldn't actually think of a word so simply settled with his name "Arthur".
He decided then that he really needed a change of subject and quick. "So.. erm.. speaking of names" he started completely unsure where the heck he was going with it, he was never good at improvising and was always one to plan something so why he was trying to do everything on the spot right now was beyond anyone. "Basilia Amrosia Cyrus.. .. sounds flowery and fruity" he said then mentally face palmed. Great, you're an idiot, you're an idiot and i hate you and your ruining everything he thought to himself.
Ok ok, you can save this, no problem, I've got this he thought then once again began to improvise "I like fruits.. and flowers". STOP BEING STUPID he yelled at himself on the inside. Ok, what can make her not run away, and make me seem slightly interesting.. at least a little bit.
Then it dawned on him, something that could save him from her thinking he's just some loser weirdo who has no social skills what so ever, or at least make her interested enough in him to stay a little bit longer instead of just walking out on him right there and then. "I'm an animagus" he blurted out, as if confessing a secret he'd been keeping for a very long time. He had been keeping it a secret kind of, but not really from her, just from his family and the world, it was his ace up his sleeve and his safety net if anything were to go wrong in his life. Now he'd trusted it with her and he didn't even regret it for a second, he only wished he hadn't just blurted it out and would have actually added some sort of context. Idiot

I'VE BEEN FALLIN' THROUGH THE FIELDS & HIDING EVERY DAY { arthur , 695 words , wearing , the distance - peasant }[/div] When Arthur struggled to describe himself as well, Basil took this time to regain her composure. She was almost scared at how scattered she was around him, he was slicing through her defenses merely by looking at her with those eyes that had her falling to bite-sized pieces ever time she saw them. The enchanting translucent irises that cast laser beams straight into her soul, picking her apart like a child with a spring roll. She couldn't even begin to keep secrets from him, there was no point in trying. Basil had learned early in her life that the fail-proof way to keep somebody from knowing her and squirming around inside her gut, was to shut them out. With people like Arthur Dalton -of which there were scarce- the only way to shut them out was to repel them, to make them hate her. She had done this to one person before, a girl named Elly. They were childhood friends, and Elly had really understood Basil. This scared the latter out of her mind, and she just cut off all her ties with Elly. Could she do it again with Arthur? No. She couldn't. Although she didn't like to admit it, she wanted nothing more than to let him in. She mentally paused, trying to decide something. Why did she like Arthur like this? What was it about him that had caught her eye, what had made her drop everything and put everything she thought she wanted on hold for these new Arthury emotions?
This was one question that Basil did not yet have an answer for.
You're so much more than just Arthur, don't you understand? Basil thought as Arthur chose his own name as an adjective regarding himself. Maybe that was one of the reasons that she liked him. Most people, when being modest, would simply come up with something like "I'm okay, I guess", "I'm not bad", or a simple reflect of the compliment back on the person who had first delivered it.
When Arthur mentioned her name she let out a small, melodic laugh. "Yeah, it's... it's great." She rolled her eyes, using her new flair for sarcasm to get her point across. His next statement had her giggling and grinning like there was no tomorrow, but she stopped at how uncomfortable he looked. Oh no, did he find this expression of emotion from her unappealing? Did he want to leave? Was he going to leave? No, no, he couldn't leave. If he left then she wouldn't know what to do! This was bad.
It was as if her heart was a violin, abandoned in an orchestra pit, sitting alone and untouched on a soft black stool, waiting. Then, a shadowed figure had curiously wandered into the theatre, drawing nearer and nearer before finally approaching the delicate instrument. Then suddenly, the figure stretched out a smooth hand and picked up the slender bow that rested against the legs of the stool, waiting, forgotten. Before the actions were even comprehended, the figure's other hand picked up the violin, and ran the bow across its strings, creating a mournful humming sound that reverberated through the open black space. The newly created sound vibrated the strings, bouncing off the walls and creating an echo, reminding basil that it was still there, that there was a beautiful creation that had been brought up from nothing into something that was purely there. The strings of her violin heart still vibrated; they still made that forlorn, ancient noise. Because Arthur had played them ever so softly, even without realizing it, he had gently reminded her that he was always there; that he would always be there.
Then he said he was an Animagus. Basil's jaw dropped before she could fully comprehend what he had said. He was an Animagus. "Wow." She breathed. She was totally awestruck. She had been reading about Animagi magic in hopes of becoming one herself, but to find out that her best friend was one? That was absolutely mind-blowing. "That's... that's amazing, Arthur. Honestly, it is. I mean..." She looked at him like she had never seen him before in her life. "Wow."

He'd only ever heard a few sounds he enjoyed, like the sound of feet kicking off from the ground to fly a broom, the sound of leaves or snow crunching beneath his feet and now added to that list was her giggle.
Arthur wasnt sure how she would react to him being an animagus, he panicked slightly when it seemed to be shock and nothing else but when she spoke a smile formed on his face. It worked, she's impressed! he thought gleaming, he'd actually managed to do a single thing good, he was just going to play off that one thing now as it was far too great of a risk to wander away from it and for her to loose interest and leave.
Wandering what to say he remembered something somebody had told him a while ago Actions speak louder than words a concept which he didnt truely understand completely, sometimes things needed to be said, but in this case, he figured he'd give it a go.
Arthur closed his eyes for a second and concentrated hard, he didn't want to mess this up. Arthur's body changed as he kept his eyes closed, it was one of the strangest feelings and he couldn't even begin to describe it, he wasnt sure he even knew the words to use. When Arthur opened his eyes again the world seemed huge, he knew it was in fact him which was small, he'd become a small brown field mouse. His eyes stared up at Basil.
She seemed huge and yet nothing had changed, there just seemed to be more of her to look at. She also seemed really far away, again that little thing in the back of his head struck in and he made his way crawling along the floor towards her, up her leg and then rested himself on one of her knees, staring up into her eyes. His head tilted to one side as he studied her, why was she so right, so perfectly great and nice and intelligent and why was he sitting there, as a mouse, like a dork, hopelessly staring into her eyes.

I'VE BEEN FALLIN' THROUGH THE FIELDS & HIDING EVERY DAY { arthur , 3O9 words , wearing , the distance - peasant }[/div] Basil watched with wide silver-emerald eyes as her best friend started to change. She was in such pure awe that the only thing she could do was merely to sit there with her mouth open like a codfish. Arthur the Hufflepuff Who She Had Weird Feelings For was now Arthur the Mouse Who Was Actually Arthur the Hufflepuff Who She Had Feelings For. She mused over the fact that she was lucky to have such an interesting friend. Other girls had friends who could do fishtail braids or sing beautifully; she had a friend who could turn into a mouse. That, in Basil's books, was ultimately cooler.
Once she came back out of the depths of her mind, she grinned down at the little mouse, who was scurrying up onto her knee. "Wow, Arth." She breathed, watching as he cocked his head to the side; it was like he was listening to her. "I wish I could do something interesting." She hummed over this statement, realizing that there weren't many people out there who cared about the meaning of Beatles songs or how to translate things into Latin. What Arthur could do was undoubtedly cooler than anything that she could do. He had Animagi magic down pat and she only had a split-second Patronus.
She tentatively reached out a slender finger, free of nail polish and grime, to gingerly and gently touch the top of Arthur's mousey head. She wasn't sure exactly why she was doing it, but it felt like a good idea. Though her finger began to stroke the furry space between his ears, her mind tried to tell her to stop. So what if it felt like a good idea? It was completely illogical! Everything was completely illogical!
Basil sighed. "You're really something, Arth." She smiled down at the mouse on her knee. "You really are."

However Basil was interesting to him, she was one of the most interesting people he knew, hence why he wanted to get to know her some more.
Then she began stroking his head, it felt great, he'd never had it done before but he could see why animals enjoyed being scratched behind the ear, this felt amazing. However it had completely distracted him and before he could realise and stop it he began to change back to his human form. He hadn't really got the complete hang of being an animagus just yet. It probably wouldn't have been much of a problem if it wasn't for the fact he'd been sitting on her knee.
The now human Arthur fell forwards landing on top of Basil. He froze for a moment unsure what to say or do, just looking down at her, blushing. He felt more awkward than he had ever done before so he quickly rolled off and lay at her side staring up at the ceiling in silence trying to find the words to say. He couldn't so simply had to say "Sorry". He was sure she was probably going to walk out now, he'd ruined it all, simply because he'd showed off and then messed it all up.

EDITED - 11:20pm (3:20 your time) 18/19/2012.
When Arthur changed back into his human form Basil's intellectual self took over, and she couldn't help but mentally take notes on what the transformation looked like and how long it took. Then, suddenly, he was on top of her. Basil blushed furiously, and tried to look away, anywhere but at Arthur, but she could only lie there helplessly and stare into his sea-coloured eyes. She took note on how warm his body was against hers, and how nice that felt. Basil was always cold, in the summertime less so but she still got chills on the hottest July days. But now she felt... warm. The corners of her mouth, as if they had high-IQ minds of their own, turned up slightly and she smiled up at Arthur during their frozen moment.
Emotions are the various bodily feelings associated with mood, temperament, personality, disposition, and motivation and also with hormones and neurotransmitters such as dopamine, noradrenaline, serotonin, oxytocin and cortisol. Emotions are the various bodily feelings associated with mood, temperament, personality, disposition, and motivation and also with hormones and neurotransmitters such as dopamine, noradrenaline, serotonin, oxytocin and cortisol. She chanted internally. Dopamine, noradrenaline, serotonin, oxytocin, cortisol. Dopamine, noradrenaline, serotonin, oxytocin... She blinked as Arthur rolled off of her. What was the last one? Cort... Better start over. Dopamine... nora... nora... She couldn't remember. It was like the shock of having Arthur on top of her had completely jostled her, had tipped over all her little mental boxes of facts and sent the files scattering all over each other, flying around the caverns of her mind and getting horribly displaced.
When Arthur apologized Basil shook her head and offered up another smile, this one was wider, deep enough to show the dimples on either side of her mouth. "It's okay," She replied, rolling over onto her side so she could see Arthur better, and propped her head up on her arm. She was still surveying him with her grey-green eyes; she had so many questions, but as she stared at Arthur she couldn't remember any of them.
"You're... you're really interesting, Arthur." She smiled shyly, unsure of what else to say. Was there anything else to say? She didn't know. But more words came out. "I'm glad I have you as a..." Her voice cut off. She knew that Arthur would be expecting her to finish her sentence, it wasn't like she could just clear her throat and pretend like it had never happened. Arth was exceptionally bright, and so she would have to answer eventually. She sighed. And as she watched, her free hand moved ever so slightly to rest on his. It was a friendly gesture that she had seen performed by countless others, hopefully he wouldn't freak out and leave. Then, her words came back as she stared into the eyes of the boy who could turn into a mouse. "I'm glad I have you."

His awkwardness truly came out at Hogwarts, suddenly there were so many people all over the place and he realised he may have a big family but he was not ready for this. Then his awkwardness started to kick in.
Arthur didn't want to be awkward, especially around Basil, he never used to be so awkward around her, what was different now. He knew exactly what was different, he suddenly realised how good looking she was and how great she was and his own feelings caught him off guard. Arthur rolled onto his side to face her as she rolled onto hers, he was revealed when she let him know his accidental turning back into a human without thinking of the location was fine, he still wasn't so good at being an animagus, but that's probably to be expected from someone his age and someone who doesn't get to practice very much.
Arthur shrugged, he never thought of himself as interesting because he knew everything about himself, what would be interesting in something you knew everything about but he figured people didn't know everything about him like he did. That then started to make him wander if eventually if somebody knew him well enough would they just get bored and leave. "I'm not.. i'm just.. not well known by you?" he said with a shrug, he wasn't sure what he was trying to say, he was just opening his mouth and letting words come out and hoping they'd be correct.
As Arthur was lost in thought of himself and his lack of bing able to say what he's thinking his mind went blank. H felt her hand touch his and he looked up into her eyes which were gazing back into his. What she was saying mad Arthur feel great, he wasn't sure why but it did. Arthur's eyes mad it's way to their hands then back up to Basil's eyes.
Screw it Arthur thought to himself, he was just going to live life and not think about very little thing for once. Arthur shuffled over towards her slightly, lent in and planted a kiss on her cheek. Okay, that could be passed off as a friendly thing.. i don't think i screwed up so much he thought the second he stopped. It wasn't exactly the big leap forwards in just doing things for feeling reasons not logical ones but it was a start and that was good enough for him. He was just hoping she wasn't going to run off.

I'VE BEEN FALLIN' THROUGH THE FIELDS & HIDING EVERY DAY { arthur , 412 words , wearing , the distance - peasant }[/div] Basil gazed back at Arthur with wide eyes. She noticed that he was getting larger, and wondered why on earth he was- he wasn't getting larger, he was getting closer. He was getting closer and closer and closer, and Basil was blushing like crazy. His lips touched her cheek and she felt like she was on fire. She froze. She couldn't think. Her mind had gone all topsy-turvy and there was nothing that she could do about it. She was a fish out of water. She struggled to remember the words that she had never had any problem remembering before. Emotions are the various bodily feelings associated with - she couldn't put the rest of the sentence together. She was helpless.
She was surprised to realize that she wanted him to kiss her again. Or, she wanted to kiss him. She didn't know. She wanted him and she didn't, because that would complicate things. Feelings are irrational and idiotic, remember Basil? She reminded herself. But... but I, I... but I want him. Her heart said quietly, hesitantly. This scared the life out of her. She didn't know what she wouldn't give to be able to be with Arthur, but she knew she couldn't make any decisions because she was being absolutely preposterous. Arthur was merely being friendly. This wasn't some sort of display of romantic affection; Basil knew Arthur better than that. He was logical. He wasn't as silly as Basil was. He didn't have problems like this.
Basil suddenly started to smile. It was a shy, gentle smile, but it was constant and honest. She gazed into his eyes, but quickly averted them once she realized what she was doing. She let a small sigh and prayed that her blush would disappear.
Arthur was the person she normally went to regarding things that she was unsure of. He was, after all, her best friend. She decided that she would approach him about these emotion things, and ask hypothetical questions to see what his reaction to them would be. Of course. It was logical. "Arthur, I was wondering if I could talk to you about something... weird." She murmured, still looking away. She let out a small sigh, and decided to face him. "I've been having... feelings, I guess, and I don't know what to do about them because they're silly and completely throwing me off-course." She let an echo of her smile come back. "What do you think I should do?"

Maybe i should just act more often, it didn't seem to do anything bad at all Arthur thought to himself, he did however notice her blush but he figured that was because it had caught her off guard, or maybe she was just warm, he was feeling warm, but he always felt warm, he wasnt really sure why, recently he'd blamed it on the hufflepuff common rooms being so warm but he was just naturally a warm person.
His attention quickly went back to Basil as she spoke, something weird, Arthur loved weird things, he'd seek them out and try to understand them, that's how the animagi thing started, he'd spent ages researching and reading about them then suddenly one day figured he could do it himself and then boom! or more like squeak. "Go for it, weird things are always the most interesting" he said with a smile glad the conversation might lead away from how awkward he was being today.
"Feelings.." Arthur repeated thinking to himself he was in a very similar situation but he didnt really plan on thinking about it with her around but now he was pretty much forced too. "Well.. I think.. hmm.." Arthur thought out loud "Feelings are weird and illogical but they're what makes us human.. it depends on these feelings, sometimes it's best to act on them or they could just get worse and you're entire life could end up revolving around it.. or it might be best to ignore it and it may pass" Arthur said thinking to himself and her.
"I read somewhere you should do one thing every week.. or was it every day.. whatever, you should do on thing every so often that scares you slightly.. i cant really remember why.." Arthur said then realised he was begining to go off topic. "You could just call it a social experiment and go with the feelings and see what happens.. if it doesn't work out then it was just an experiment and things go back to how they was before" Arthur finished with a nod, he'd done 'social experiments' before, mainly on his family, he'd tried being nice to Beth to see if she'd stop being so.. Beth-like but no it made her suspicious and be more Beth-like so that experiment had failed.

I'VE BEEN FALLIN' THROUGH THE FIELDS & HIDING EVERY DAY { arthur , 454 words , wearing , the distance - peasant }[/div] Basil listened intently to what Arthur was saying. When he mentioned how illogical feelings were the little voice in her head scoffed. You don't even know the half of it. She thought. Then she considered something else. Maybe Arthur did know the half of it. Maybe he had felt these weird things too. Maybe she wasn't alone. Maybe Arthur was just as tormented as she was by emotions. Sure, like Arthur would lose control of himself. Arthur made sense, there was no complications regarding him - at least, not before now. Maybe... maybe he does. Another voice piped up. Maybe he does deal with emotions. A thought came forth and knocked at the door before inviting itself in. What if Arthur did have these feelings? What if... no, no it was too ridiculous, silly, preposterous, crazy... the list went on and on. But what if Arthur... what if Arthur had these feelings... for her? He wouldn't. He couldn't. Impossible. The Hufflepuff brought up the suggestion of a social experiment, and Basil was once again listening intently. An experiment... now that idea wasn't half bad. In fact, it just might be what she needed. Basil was always game for experiments and studies... yes; this would be exactly what she needed. But then she had another thought. These feelings were too specific. She couldn't find out about her feelings for Arthur because they were about Arthur. He'd never go for it. She sighed, avoiding his gaze and choosing instead to examine a spot of dust on the floor. "It's a great idea, Arthur, but it would never work out. See, my feelings are very... well, they're for one person and one person only, I think. And, er, they're not the kind of feelings I should be having for this person." She sighed, her gaze flicking to Arthur before returning to the floor. "It's this... it's this guy. He's just, he's amazing, and I really like him. But I like him in the way that I shouldn't... follow me?" She asked. "It's not some experiment I could do with just anyone, and if I could then I don't think I... could." She knew she wasn't making sense so she trailed off, letting out another deep sigh. "Arthur, have you..." She found it in herself to look him in the eye. "Have you ever been kissed? Not like a family or one of those kinds of kisses, but..." She fidgeted a bit. "Kissed. Romantically, I mean." She looked away again. Look at him, you idiot. The voice in her head snarled. It sounded so vicious, so threatening that she couldn't help but comply. As she stared into him Basil realized something. She was scared. "Or... have you ever..." So, so scared. She was petrified. "Have you ever wanted to?"[/div]

What was even better is that she seemed to somehow find his thinking and ideas to be good which always made him feel better about himself.
As she spoke his face was becoming more and more screwed up which tends to happen when he gets confused. Okay, so she has feelings for someone, that's fine, i can cope with that, it'll be just like.. like.. like now, nothing will have changed what so ever, so fine, yes he thought to himself but she shouldnt have feelings for that person, so i have a chance.. do i want a chance.. should i have feelings for her? should she have feelings back.. am i the guy.. that's silly, i'd know, it'd be obvious he thought his mind racing.
Had Arthur ever been kissed, that was her question and it was one he knew straight away "No.. i've never been kissed like that" he told her honestly, he had nothing to hide or be ashamed of, he'd just never met the right person.. or done any social experimenting that involved kissing. Then she asked something that made him hesitate slightly.
Arthur looked into her eyes and gulped "Yes, i want to kiss" he stated, not really thinking, his mind still racing and not making sense. Then he realised what it was he had just said and looked away quickly rambling "I mean i want to kiss someone.. like.. not you but.. well.. not not you.. i erm.. i think.. i erm.." clearing his throat he continued "I mean, i would like to kiss somebody in that way.. to understand what it feels like" Arthur was fine with that so decided to shut the hell up before ruining it by saying something even more awkward.
