I'VE BEEN FALLIN' THROUGH THE FIELDS & HIDING EVERY DAY { arthur , 285 words , wearing , the distance - peasant }[/div] Basil looked at the floor as Arthur spoke. Her mind was reeling, the room was spinning, and she was lost. She was lost and she was nowhere to be found. She was doomed to dangle from the edge of Arthur's words in the Astronomy tower, her fate resting on the edges of his words. She loved when he spoke, she loved listening to him and appreciated all the little things he said that made him Arthur. His blunt logic that had her stop and smile even when she wasn't with him. He had molded her into who she was now. She was a wreck because of Arthur Dalton. She was confused because of Arthur Dalton. She was hurting because of Arthur Dalton. She was afraid because of Arthur Dalton. She was lost because of Arthur Dalton. She was doomed because of Arthur Dalton. She was unbalanced because of Arthur Dalton. She was hesitant because of Arthur Dalton. She was awkward because of Arthur Dalton. She was petrified because of Arthur Dalton. She was upset because of Arthur Dalton. Yet... she was Basil because of Arthur Dalton.
"Me neither." She replied when her friend said he had never kissed anyone in that way. She wasn't ashamed of it; she had simply never really wanted to be like that with a guy. Basil always had her studies ahead of her, she was always that weird girl, she never had time for boys. She hadn't the time to really make friends, much less fall in love with any of them.
"Arthur..." She began, looking back at him. "Would you be okay with... would you... could you... like to kiss... me?" She asked shyly, averting her eyes once more.

Then Arthur froze, his mind went blank completely and he lost the ability to talk for a while. Did she just ask him to kiss her, he wasn't sure, did she ask him if he wanted to kiss her, he again wasn't sure. Arthur opened his mouth but words didnt really come out so he closed it again and tried to gather his composure. Arthur had no words that he could use, his mind was blank so he figured he may as well just do it.
He lent in and gently placed his lips on hers, he'd never done this before so he wasn't sure what to expect, he was hoping he hadn't caught the wrong end of the stick completely, he wasn't sure how he'd be able to talk his way out of it if he had. It felt right though, it felt great, he was actually beginning to understand why people would be so illogical sometimes but that contradicted things he already knew. His mind was a mess but whatever was happening felt great so he didn't even care, he'd worry about that later.

I'VE BEEN FALLIN' THROUGH THE FIELDS & HIDING EVERY DAY { arthur , 228 words , wearing , the distance - peasant }[/div] When Arthur kissed her Basil realized something. She didn't care. She didn't care anymore. She was throwing caution to the wind, saying "screw it", and letting everything go. She was kissing Arthur and there was nothing anybody could do about it. She wasn't going to complain or fight or anything, she was just going to sit in the North Tower and be kissed by the most amazing boy she had ever met.
Her mind was blank. There was nothing there. Every ounce of intelligence had abandoned Basil completely and decided that this situation was too irrational for them to be much use.
Her heart was beating out of her chest. The feeling both scared and intrigued her. She decided that she liked this flip-floppy feeling. She liked not knowing what came next. She liked this. She liked being kissed. She liked Arthur.
Every part of her was focused on the small spot where his lips were pressed against hers. Her lips tingled, and she smiled slightly against his lips before breaking from him. She smiled at him, staring directly at him... no, she was sure she was staring into him.
"That was... that was nice." She said shyly. "This isn't my area of expertise, but you could probably get any girl in our year with a kiss like that." She smiled. I just wish it could be me.

Arthur blushed slightly as the kiss ended, he'd never felt so illogical and brilliant, doing illogical things excited him thus now giving him a logical reason to do something illogical, his mind was bending over itself trying to understand all these new thoughts and feelings.
Then she spoke and he smiled slightly "Even the boys" he joked slightly then quickly went silent unsure if she actually knew he was bisexual, he'd had to look up what he was himself, he found himself thinking both girls and guys are appealing to the eye. None so much to him as Basil though, she was perfection. "..could i have you?" he asked, it was a long shot but heck, he'd just kissed her, if there was a time to ask it was now, it was both the logical choice and the illogical choice. Arthur was beginning to confuse himself now with all the logicalness and illogicalness flying around.

I'VE BEEN FALLIN' THROUGH THE FIELDS & HIDING EVERY DAY { arthur , 253 words , wearing , the distance - peasant }[/div] She had to admit that she didn't know that Arthur was bisexual, but it didn't really matter to her. Why should it matter to her? She herself had often admired the beauty of other girls, though she knew she could never be romantically involved with one because girls were complicated and rather vicious. So Arthur was bisexual. That was just another word to add to her mental list of things that she knew about Arthur. Basil had lists about everybody. Lists were logical and if something was marked down then she wasn't likely to forget it.
As Arthur spoke again, his words echoed in his head. Could I have you? Could I have you? Could I have you? Could I have you? Could I have you? Could I have you? Could. I. Have. You?
A puzzled expression adorned her face, and she chewed her lip for a moment. She had been waiting for this moment for... she didn't even know she had been waiting for this moment. This was her aha moment. She finally realized what she wanted. But, the way Arthur phrased his question had her confused. Did he mean could as in "Would I be able to", or could as in "Can I please"? She looked back at him, and offered a soft, sweet smile.
"Are you asking hypothetically, or are you asking me what I think you're asking me?" Basil asked hesitantly. Oh, screw this. Her consciences all agreed with each other. "Because either way, it's a... it's a yes."

YES! he yelled in his head, feeling like he'd just caught the snitch in the last game of the Quidditch World Cup in under twenty seconds of the game starting. "In that case i want another kiss" he told her grinning, he wasn't sure how this was going to work out, he was sure his parents wouldn't approve, but right now, he didn't care about any of that he was in the moment and nothing else mattered.
Arthur went in again and placed his lips on hers, this time was better than the last as he knew she was his, he had his own girlfriend or at least a friend he could kiss like this, he wasn't sure of the specifics yet, he was just enjoying the moment. Her lips against his was always a great feeling and he'd only done it twice so far, he was beginning to understand why some guys would just flirt with anyone to try and get kissed, Arthur wasn't like that though, he never would be, he didn't see the point, when you've found someone so amazing why would you even bother with anyone else.

I'VE BEEN FALLIN' THROUGH THE FIELDS & HIDING EVERY DAY { arthur , 258 words , wearing , the distance - peasant }[/div] When Arthur grinned, she couldn't help but give back one of her own. She was his girlfriend, he was her boyfriend, and she realized why people paid so much attention to this relationship stuff.
Basil had never really understood why people her age spent so much time kissing others. She often saw couples of students sharing a deep, passionate kiss before class started and they went their separate ways. There were usually a couple seventh year couples snogging in the common room as Basil sat awkwardly on the windowsill reading a book late in the night. These actions had always rendered her thoroughly perplexed. Why would they spend their time just sitting there swapping spit and doing nothing useful with their time?
However, she threw this all away as Arthur's lips came back to hers. She scooted slightly closer -close enough so she didn't have to lean so far, but not too close that she was pressed up against him- and slowly, tentatively, brought her hand up to gently rest on his cheek. "Lots of Hogwarts boys and girls are going to be very sad when they find out that you're taken." She murmured against his lips, her tone teasing and light. Basil broke the kiss gently, idly stroking his cheek with her thumb. "I don't think it's entirely fair that you've initiated both kisses." She was teasing again, her smile wide and completely happy. She kissed him this time, loving the feel of his lips against hers. She finally realized why teenagers were so crazy about kissing.

Arthur shook his head slightly at what she said, he knew nobody would really be disappointed if he was in a relationship, excluding his parents. "No i'm not actually that desirable.. i think we just go well together.. like.. erm.. a lock and a key" he said unable to actually think of any other things that go well together, his head was currently in some other world dancing among flowers and rainbows.
Arthur's eyes widened slightly as she kissed him, he hadn't really been expecting it, his eyes slowly closed in pleasure as he kissed her back. He had a feeling this as going to be the start of a beautiful relationship, there was just one problem and he knew he ought to bring it up so she could know what she was in for. Breaking the kiss he smiled slightly to her and then let out a small sigh and said "Look Basil, i really really really like this.. but my parents are kind of evil and well.. i don't think you're what they have in mind for me" he told her with a frown, he wasnt sure what was going to happen now.

I'VE BEEN FALLIN' THROUGH THE FIELDS & HIDING EVERY DAY { arthur , 533 words , wearing , the distance - peasant }[/div] When Arthur mentioned his parents, Basil's eyebrows knitted together slightly and she gave a small nod of understanding. She had indeed heard a thing or two about the Dalton family, and at least one of those things didn't show the Daltons in a good light. As soon as she heard Arthur's name on the attendance list in class she had grouped him with the wealthy pureblooded family, which was part of the reason she had originally assumed he wanted no share of the work. It had been both a pleasant and a perplexing surprise when Arthur had proved everything she had ever heard about his family wrong. She had then assumed that he was from a different family -Dalton, of course, must be a rather popular name- but that idea had been shot down as she looked up the family tree and seen him with the other Daltons at Hogwarts.
Even though he was from the noble House of Dalton, Arthur had proved himself to be the black sheep... or -and this was probably more correct- the white sheep in the family. He seemed to border on shy, and never drew attention to himself. He didn't have the definite holier-than-thou aura that the other Dalton students shared. Arthur was a man all on his own.
Arthur couldn't share the same beliefs as his family, or at least, not to the same extent. He knew Basil was a Muggleborn; they had talked about it when they were just friends and they were getting to know each other better. He was still here, he hadn't left despite her blood status. He couldn't be like his parents. It just wasn't possible. The logical thing for him to have done once he found out she wasn't pureblood (if he shared the same political ideologies) would be to have left her and not made another effort to be her friend.
Well, that's certainly not what had happened. They stayed friends, and now they were kissing in a secluded tower. This proved that Arthur a) didn't dislike her, and b) didn't think the same way as he had been bred to.
To be quite honest, this was the first bit of rational thinking that Basil had actually successfully done since she walked into this room.
She realized that, although her brain hadn't stopped spewing out notions and conclusions for at least a minute, her mouth was significantly less chatty. She had physically remained silent, while mentally noisy.
She sat up and tucked loose locks of crimson hair behind her ears, fidgeting slightly. How was she supposed to know what to say? She had never done this sort of thing before. She was thoroughly confused. Basil sighed, taking one of Arthur's hands and holding it in both of her own. She absently stroked the back of his hand with her thumbs as she chewed on her lip, mulling over what to say. "Well..." She frowned. "Well... what do you think we should do, then? I mean, do you want to stop, or do you, I... we... do we just not tell anybody? Do we... I don't know." She gave up, displacing Arthur's hand and hugging her knees to her chest. This was certainly a problem and one he was determined to solve, his mind was now working overtime to come up with a solution and fast, but what if there was no solution, what if the fact there is no solution is the solution. Arthur had somehow stumbled upon this thought and it pleased him. "We carry on" He stated simply.
He then realised she couldn't read his mind and would have to explain a little bit. "It doesn't become a problem until my parents find out and my cousins and siblings wont tell them. If they do find out then.. i guess i'll get disowned, i could go traveling after Hogwarts, i have always wanted to just go wherever the wind takes me" He said still unsure if it was the correct solution but it would have to do, his parents couldn't just boss him around anymore, he'd grown up.
Arthur then planted a kiss on Basil's cheek. "...Josh is going to be soooo annoyed i got to choose who i want to be with" he thought out loud with a small chuckle. If his parents had put him in an arraigned marriage he'd disown them, he didn't like arraigned marriage, there just didn't seem to be any love to it, although Arthur still couldn't quite understand Love, he was beginning to think he never would, even when he'd in it.

I'VE BEEN FALLIN' THROUGH THE FIELDS & HIDING EVERY DAY { arthur , 470 words , wearing , the distance - peasant }[/div] Basil absolutely couldn't resist giving Arthur a sweet, genuine smile, the kind that was only for his eyes to see. She quite adored him; she thought he was brilliant and that he was simply one of the most interesting and amazing people she had ever met.
She had found that he was rather handsome, though he often skirted around admitting it. Maybe this opinion on his appearance wasn't one that everyone would agree with her on, because Basil found that beauty was, in fact, in the eye of the beholder. Life was filled with people judging others based on appearances. It was entirely illogical to poor, perplexed Basil, but then again so were so many social regulations. Her older brother knew social nuances like he knew how to breathe. The best word to describe Caius Wyn Cyrus was "charming"; nobody could challenge this with another argument that held water. When Basil was a child and even a young teen, she had often heard "Bas, you can't do that," or "No, not like that, Bas" from her sibling.
Oh, how she wished she could ask Cai for advice now. He would know what to do. If he had fallen in love with a Dalton girl, he would charm the living daylights out of her parents. Her father, being a Muggle, would even be able to coax a friendly smile from Mr. and Mrs. Dalton, she was sure. Basil, on the other hand, possessed none of this Cyrus family charm. She was polite and courteous, but was unable to relate to many people enough to be considered charming.
Focus, Basilia. Her conscience scolded her for straying off course.
When Arthur mentioned Josh, Basil let out a light laugh. It was no secret that Joshua Dalton had been stuck in an arranged marriage, also that he was less than ecstatic regarding it. Basil had helped Josh out when it came to girls, creatures that she herself was just coming to understand. It was mainly because she had enough data to get a general idea of what girls liked and what they didn't, who they gossiped about the most and whether the gossip was positive or negative. Josh needed her assistance, and she was happy to give it to him. Or, perhaps she wasn't happy to, as it didn't cause her great joy whenever she gave him a word of advice, but she certainly didn't have a problem with it.
Basil felt warm inside as she realized that Arthur wasn't going to let her go. They could be together, and it would be lovely and totally okay. They would be safe.
She leaned back down so that their noses were touching, and cupped his face in her hands. "I'm glad you got to choose." She murmured before closing the gap and kissing him deeply.

He understood a lot more about why people would go to such great lengths to get together with somebody, he'd always felt better off alone, he didn't need anyone and he felt strong not needing anyone, he still didn't need anyone, but now he wanted someone, he wanted Basil and nobody was taking her away from him without a fight.
Arthur smiled a her lips touched his, everything felt right and he didn't have a care in the world. He ran his hand up her sides, over her shoulders and then onto her back bringing them both closer together. Arthur then broke the kiss and shuffled away slightly. "What if we kiss so much it stops being nice and is just normal.. we should probably slow down a bit" Arthur said unsure on how relationships or kissing or anything in that way works, he'd have to go to the library and get some books on it, or he could ask someone for advice, maybe Josh although after considering it he decided against that, god knows what Josh would try and convince him is true.

I'VE BEEN FALLIN' THROUGH THE FIELDS & HIDING EVERY DAY { arthur , a few words , wearing , the distance - peasant }[/div] Basil nodded and completely understood Arthur's point. She didn't like the idea of kissing getting boring, although she didn't think it would. She didn't want it to be a default, she didn't want it to be that thing they did because that's just what they did. She wanted it to have meaning, to have all the passion and romance and spark that she had heard so much about all of her life. She was, like Arthur, just beginning to understand things.
All she could think about in that moment was that she wished she could owl Cai. He would have all the answers to these weird romance questions that she had. Why is my heart beating so fast? Why am I blushing? Why is my body producing so much adrenaline? Why do I like Arthur? Why do I like boys? Why am I having this feelings? Why me, Cai, why me? What do I do now, Cai? What do we do now, Cai? What the hell happens next, Cai?
"Arth..." She murmured. "I..." She trailed off, unsure as to what to say. She didn't know what she was going to say. She didn't know where she was going with this. Oh boy. "Nevermind." She said softly, shaking her head slightly so that her crimson hair fell in her eyes and showed Arthur a small, gentle smile.

Arthur watched a her hair fell in front of her face. Arthur hadn't really noticed before now but everything Basil did was either cute or really hot, he knew she was really attractive but just that simple thing made him more glad he had her.
Arthur slowly moved the hair from her face and quickly gave her a peck on the lips. "I should probably go.. i have like homework and stuff that needs doing and i need to head to the library and find books before curfew" he told her scratching the back of his head "I'll see you tomorrow.. oh and Basil, you're the most beautiful thing i have ever seen" he told her then quickly kissed her and headed out. He knew he had to make himself leave quickly, if he didnt he'd have been there all night, heck he wish he could be there with her all night.

I'VE BEEN FALLIN' THROUGH THE FIELDS & HIDING EVERY DAY { arthur , several words , wearing , the distance - peasant }[/div] Basil could see in Arthur's eyes that he was curious as to what she had been saying. But she had just as much of a clue as he did. What was it that she had wanted to say? Arthur, I'm really glad I have you? Arthur, you're incredible? Arthur, you mean so much to me? Arthur, are you sure we can do this? Arthur, don't leave me? Arthur, I like you... a lot? Arthur, I... nothing. She had nothing. There was an empty, blank space there where all her thoughts usually assembled before shooting forth like guns of an execution line. But this was different. This was Arthur. All her thoughts were confused and ecstatic and soaring around the caverns of her mind, but when one of them was called up to bat, every single one disappeared, shy and nervous and afraid of being singled out.
She unconsciously leaned into his touch, appreciating the feel of his warm hands on her skin. Warmth was good. Warmth was very good, especially when your name was Basil Ambrosia Cyrus. Basil was always cold. Always. Weirdly, winter was her favourite season; she attributed it to actually having an excuse to be cold. Arthur's touch practically burned on her skin - partially because of the figurative fire that burned between the both of them, and partially because his skin was incredibly heated compared to hers - and she relished the feeling.
When he kissed her quickly, Basil smiled against his lips. When he broke apart from her, she couldn't help but feel slightly disappointed. She would have been happier to just stay here with him all night - not necessarily kissing - and bask in the glow of Arthur's comforting aura. "Yeah, I should go too." She replied against the wishes of her own thoughts. And then he called her beautiful.
Basil had never really thought of herself as beautiful. Beautiful wasn't a label that you could really put on anybody, she thought. Beauty was in the eye of the beholder, wasn't it? It wasn't reasonable to call somebody beautiful because the quality of a person's appearance was an opinion and then there was generalization and... Arthur thought she was beautiful. Arthur thought she was beautiful. Arthur thought she was beautiful. When he left she called out a goodbye, or at least she thought she did; she was too caught up in Arthur's words.
He thought she was beautiful.
Arthur thought Basil was beautiful.
Wow.
Absentmindedly, she left the Tower and made her merry way back to her own; skipping all the way because Arthur called her beautiful.
