GENDER: female. DATE OF BIRTH: april 24th. SEXUAL ORIENTATION: sapiosexual. CURRENT RESIDENCE: where they live at the moment CURRENT OCCUPATION: divination professor. HOGWARTS HOUSE: hufflepuff. BLOOD STATUS: pureblood. WAND: silver lime, unicorn hair, twelve inches. PERSONALITY: let's get any disillusion that hufflepuffs are quiet and boring out of your head straight away. while divination might be regarded as nonsense, her teaching certainly shouldn't be and anyone that tries to discredit the subject while in her lesson will find themselves promptly thrown out with little hope of getting back in. helena won't stand for mucking around. as far as she's concerned, she is at hogwarts to teach and the students are there to learn. if they can't be bothered to apply themselves properly to their work then she's not going to let them get in the way of doing her job. her strength in theoretical subjects does not mean that she lacks skill with her wand. professor fawley is more than capable of casting charms and spells as required and though she has never had need to duel, she would certainly be able to hold her own long enough to get away. yes, to get away. though helena is loyal, she is also smart enough to know that getting herself killed would do little to help her cause. it is perhaps for this reason that she was placed in hufflepuff over gryffindor when the sorting hat hesitated in its decision. though she will stand up to her fears for what she believes is right, her bravery does not extend to stupidity even if the less intelligent would deem her a coward for disapparating if she stood no chance of winning. BACKGROUND: helena never understood what was so special about her family. whenever she did something that was normally to be expected of a child, such as jumping in puddles or getting muddy in the garden, her mother would slap her sharply on the back of the knee and tell her to act more like a fawley. what was most ironic was that her mother had only married into the name yet was so much more concerned about it than her father to whom it belonged. the family name had been included in a 'sacred' list of twenty-eight pure blood families and like the weasleys, the fawleys of the time weren't entirely thrilled to be associated with the likes of malfoys, averys and selwyns. pure blood supremacy had never been pushed upon the children for a good fifty years before the book had been published and it certainly hadn't been passed on to her father. but still, meredith james continued to revere the fawley name in comparison to her own insignificant but nonetheless pureblood family, trying to convince her daughter that her blood made her better than everybody else. she started to show magic at the age of six and though her parents had never doubted that she would be a witch, they were excited all the same. a year later, the arguments between helena's parents really began. there had been the occasional disagreement over meredith's attempts to impose a sense of superiority into their daughter but it was only when she announced that she'd found the perfect pureblood boy for her to marry when she was older that elijah finally cracked and told her to leave. elijah had fortunately been able to counter his now ex-wife's efforts over the years and was now able to ensure that only that which would aid helena in her life was taught to her. from this she learned that if she wanted to be better than everybody else, this would come from hard work for her achievements and not simply for coming from a long line of wizards. she was sorted into hufflepuff when she started at hogwarts and true to her house, she worked harder than even some ravenclaws. where many of them expected to get by on their natural academic talents, helena wasn't going to let herself get too comfortable and her extra work put her above even some of the smartest ravenclaws in her strongest subjects. after achieving an excellent set of OWLs, she continued with all of these subjects (with the exception of history of magic) at NEWT level and was rewarded with another great set of results. it was somewhat surprising to some that she chose divination over her other subjects to pursue a career in. though it had always appeared her strongest subject, most people expected her to go on into potioneering or healing for her potions, charms and herbology had also been very strong. some called it a waste of talent but as always, elijah stood by his daughter's decisions. after six years travelling the world, immersing herself in various cultures to explore their methods of predicting the future, helena returned to britain and applied for a job at hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry in the hospital wing. for a year she worked alongside the matron in her drastic change of occupation before professor trelawney decided the time had finally come to retire. with firenze having returned to the centaur herd several years beforehand, the position of divination professor was in need of filling and helena was given the job before she'd even had a chance to sit down for her interview. she has now been teaching at hogwarts for eight years as a well-respected professor with high-achieving students each year. |
