HOGWARTS HOUSE: Ravenclaw. BLOOD STATUS: Halfblood. WAND: Hazel, 12½", mooncalf dung. PERSONALITY: Lorcan certainly isn't the most verbose in the class, in fact he's quite the opposite. He rarely speaks in lessons unless he's been directly asked a question because if he's satisfied that he knows the answer then he should just leave it for someone that's not as confident to try and answer so they can improve. It's not that he thinks he knows all the answers, he just knows that he's smart and is usually very certain of the conclusions he's drawn. It's rare for him to forget anything, both on an intellectual level and experiential for tiny little details of situations that show he's been paying attention to everything, even if it appears as though he's just been sitting in the corner daydreaming. Admittedly, he does daydream a lot but Lorcan's rarely so far away that he can't jump straight back in when he's done - almost as if his imagination has diverted his attention but his eyes and ears are still processing his surroundings and feeding him the information. He doesn't have a huge number of friends, simply because he's quite content on his own, but those that he does have are highly valued and are able to draw out more life from him. Many of his classmates would be surprised to see him at home where he's so lively and energetic because it's where he feels comfortable and knows he can just go crazy without being looked at like, well, a crazy person. It's all a matter of where he feels completely comfortable as to how he behaves. If he's in public then he'll just keep to himself and mind his own business though the presence of either Lysander or one of his parents will settle him a little more. He's not particularly into Quidditch or any sports for that matter, much preferring to bury his nose in a book and get lost within the pages or else build upon his scrapbook of creatures. BACKGROUND: Lorcan was born just five minutes before his twin brother Lysander to Rolf Scamander and Luna Lovegood. The two had married just over a year ago after meeting five years before upon comparing notes on the features of various trees that made them more attractive to bowtruckles. They then moved to Rolf's home country of Ireland to study how the number of chizpurfles nesting in an augurey's feathers affected how many fairies it consumed on behalf of the Irish Ministry of Magic so they could determine whether it be worth tackling the parasites as a root to the dwindling Irish populations of fairies. And so it was that the Scamander boys were to be raised in rural Ireland surrounded by talk of magical creatures and peculiar theories. It wasn't uncommon for their parents to bring home some strange little thing for the children to marvel at for several hours before releasing it in the back garden to return to its own family. Lorcan particularly enjoyed drawing them and by the age of nine, he'd filled a scrapbook with sketches and descriptions of every animal, bird and insect, both magical and mundane, that he'd been able to find within a mile radius of their home. His parents were both certain to encourage him to pursue whatever it was that his heart desired and with parents like his own, this was often rather different to most children his age. He was intensely fascinated by his great-grandfather's book, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and it was the focal point of the library he insisted upon building up in his bedroom. The only toys he had any desire to own were miniature animals that fitted comfortably in a small trunk at the end of his best and the rest of his room was filled with bookshelves, mostly containing books as one would expect but several also containing various items from holidays and such. Having spent his whole childhood building upon his knowledge and allowing his imagination to flow free, it was no surprise that he was sorted into Ravenclaw when he and Lysander arrived at Hogwarts for their first year. Over the course of their education, Lorcan worked very hard and it showed in the results he received back from pieces of work and indeed the exams at the end of each year. He has never failed yet and only twice has he received anything lower than Exceeds Expectations. He remained relatively unnoticed for his five years, preferring to just quietly mind his own business and not get caught up in the drama and gossip of his classmates, and so he has remained completely himself rather than being twisted to fit the expectations of his generation. It is now his sixth year and he's determined to work harder than ever to get as good a set of results for his NEWTs as he did for his OWLs so as to set him in good stead for the real world. |
